About my person

I'm a weird guy interested in many different apsects of life. The spectrum has its beginning in the very essential questions of being, gently kisses the evolution of universe and finally hits the heart of nature's secrets. Well, it's quite inclusive, though. Simply put, it's all about everything and nothing ...

But hey, I've got some practical interests as well. The design and implementation of modern computer's operating systems, developing robust, reliable and secure IT infrastructures, and the deployment of clever strategies to make cracker's life harder.

At work I primarily deal with virtualisation, security, high availability, planning and implementing heterogenous networks, monitoring, administration and auditing.

Aside from computer sciences and IT, I'm passionate about learning chemistry, biology and medicine, to finally dive into the world of neurosciences and the understanding of the brain and nervous system of living beings. Basically, I love philosophy and the interdisciplinary research on several scientific branches to get The Big Picture (tm). Furthermore, I enjoy profound talks on philosophical issues, technical discussions, literature and absorbing Scott Adams' works (God, he's brilliant).

Some of my favourite bookmarks are organised on del.icio.us.

My business Thinkpad runs OpenBSD, my workstations run OpenBSD, all my private servers (like this one) run OpenBSD, many production servers at work run OpenBSD. Why? Clean design, high-quality code, thought-out tools, correct and up-to-date technical documentation, stability, evolutionary and fast, not impulsive development process, openness - no binary blobs, no NDAs, mostly BSD/MIT-licensed, maturity (not only of the operating system itself), it's non-commercial, full disclosure of bugs, minimalism - no bloat of useless, unmaintained features and software, simplicity, elegance, universality, practicability-approach, high configurability, true adherence to the unix philosophy, a good security record and cool stickers ... You still don't get what it's all about? Go convince yourself.

This site runs OpenBSD!

I prefer interacting with computers via text interfaces. They need to be small and efficiently adapted to a single purpose and leverage the power of the unix environment. That way I'm able to creatively combine several commands to fulfil very specific and repetitive tasks with ease.

A small selection of day-to-day tools I use: dwm, rxvt-unicode, zsh, mutt, vim, xxxterm. Their respective configuration files: dwm's config.h, Xressources, zshrc, muttrc, vimrc, xxxterm.conf, and the xinitrc file.
